Training is with
Michael Pakay, a certified NRA Pistol Instructor, certified NRA Range Safety Officer and an
NRA membership recruiter.
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (BoPS) is a two-part firearms training program. The 1st. segment is completed online with
the 2nd completed at the range. A $150.00 fee includes both segments as well as all targets, ammo and use of a .22LR pistol.
You need to send a $60.00 non-refundable deposit, which will cover the cost of the online segment. Once the fee deposit has
been received, we will assign you the online access code giving you full access to start the online segment. We will send
you full instructions on how to register for and start your online training.
This segment will take about 10 hours and you have 30 days to finish the course work once you register.
Cost
- $150.00 in two payments, total cost
- $60.00 to cover the cost of the online segment, 1st payment
- $90.00 to cover the range segment. The range segment will be scheduled after the online portion has been completed,
2nd payment. The 2nd payment may be paid at the range or with Venmo or Zelle.
- $20.00 BoPS Workbook. This 190 page textbook is optional but a suggested purchase

Registration & Online Training
- Contact Michael by email letting him
know you are interested in attending this training session. Michael will give you his training schedule
and instruction for registering.
- Signup for a scheduled class using the instructions from Michael. The range date may be adjusted to accommodate
the student's schedule.
- Let Michael know if you will be purchasing the Workbook.
- Complete the online session. Michael is available to answer your questions if need be.
- Set a date and time to complete the course at the range. Date and time will be set to accommodate all students.
Range Segment
We will meet at Lake Island Rifle & Pistol Club and review what you learned through the online course and answer any
question of content you found unclear or confusing. We will cover range rules, demonstrate how
to hold a pistol and how to properly stand while shooting. SAFETY WILL BE STRESSED AT ALL TIME. You will be shooting
both a .22LR single action revolver and a .22LR semi-automatic pistol. Range time will be approximately 2 – 3 hours and
100 rounds fired per student. You will complete the course by shooting 50 rounds at an eight inch target at 10 and 15
yards. A score of 80% is required to pass the course.
Please note: I have not, to date, had any student who couldn't
pass this course.
If you have limited experience with a firearm, I will limit this class size and give you my full attention. The handguns,
targets and the ammo are included in the course fee. You may bring your own firearm and ammo if you would like additional
instructions. Please note: an additional fee will be assessed for a limited class size. Normal class size is 4 students
per instructor.
What you need to bring to the range

a .22LR semi-automatic pistol. Range time will be approximately 2 – 3 hours and 100 rounds of ammunition will be supplied
per student.
- Eye protection: If you wear prescription glasses, they will be acceptable. If not, any clear safety glasses
are acceptable.
- Ear Protection: The Noise Reduction Rating for ear protection is the starting point. I prefer electronic
earmuffs for the ability to hear others speak while protecting your hearing from loud gunfire. I use Howard Leight
NRR 30 Impact Pro Electronic Earmuff rated at 30 dB, but any brand is acceptable. The higher the db rate equates to
more noise reduction. You want to protect your hearing so purchase the best you can afford.
- Pencil & Paper: Taking additional notes for later reference.
Conclusion
Firearm's training needs to be a top priority to all who handle a firearm. Handling a firearm safely will be stressed at all
times during this class and at no time will a firearm be loaded and not be handled in a safe manner. Following range safety
rules will be required at all times by all students and trainers.
